When The Underdog Turned The Tide… Patriots vs Buffalo
Patriot’s fans haven’t had much to cheer about the last few years. The Patriots once dominated the AFC East, but now all the experts have crowned Buffalo as the team to beat. They are the incumbents and odds on favorites.
Hmm… Sounds like a David vs Goliath comparison coming!
Even with a new head coach and some much improved position players, the experts, the pundits, and the “analytics guys” all said the Patriots didn’t stand a chance. Buffalo’s more experience, faster, flashier and the establishment’s favorite. But if you’re from Rhode Island, you know better than to count out a New England team with something to prove.
From the opening kick, it wasn’t pretty. The Patriots were supposed to get steamrolled, yet every hit, every scramble, every unlikely first down started to shift the energy. You could feel it. The kind of game where grit beats glamour, where doing your homework pays off, and where no one on the sideline believes the story has been written yet.
That’s the thing about underdogs: they’re usually the ones who know how to fight the longest. They don’t have the luxury of taking anything for granted, not one play, not one break, not one chance.
They play for keeps because they’ve been counted out before.
It’s the same spirit that runs through my campaign.
We’re a district of doers, builders, and small business owners. People who’ve been told “that’s not possible” more times than they can count and proved otherwise.
Whether it’s keeping a business alive during COVID, fighting for better schools, or just making ends meet in a state where the odds can feel stacked, we know how to stay on the field and keep pushing forward.
In politics, as in football, the “establishment” loves to pick winners early. They count votes the same way sports talk shows count touchdowns… before the game’s even played.
But the truth is, no one owns the outcome except the people on the field and the fans in the stands.
When the whistle blows, it’s about who shows up, who hustles, and who refuses to back down.
The Patriots didn’t just win in Buffalo because of one big play. They won because of hundreds of small ones done right.
That’s the blueprint I believe in for District 36 and for Rhode Island.
Real progress isn’t a Hail Mary. It’s consistent effort, smart decisions, and teamwork. It’s not glamorous, but it gets the job done.
And when the final whistle blows and the scoreboard surprises everyone, that’s when you realize something important: heart still matters. Preparation still matters. Believing in your teammates still matters.
So yeah, the Patriots pulled off a win no one saw coming, and I know that feeling because I’ve been underestimated before.
But my campaign isn’t about taking on Goliath.
It’s about hard work, honesty, and community.
If the Patriots can go into Buffalo and shock the experts, then maybe, just maybe, it’s time to believe in a few more upsets — starting right here at home.
