Honoring Our First Responders
October 28th is National First Responders Day, a time to honor the firefighters, police officers, EMTs, dispatchers, and all those who run toward danger when the rest of us are running away.
These are our neighbors, friends, and family members. They are the men and women who put themselves in harm’s way for the safety and well-being of others.
Whether it’s battling a fire in the middle of the night, responding to a medical emergency, or being the first voice on the radio when disaster strikes, their courage and commitment are what keep our communities safe.
Here in District 36, we’re lucky to have some of the best — from our local fire and police departments in Narragansett, North Kingstown, and Block Island, to the EMTs and dispatchers who answer the call no matter the hour.
There is a way for us to show our support for these heroes starting with The 100 Club RI. It is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization whose primary mission is to provide financial assistance and academic scholarships to the families of active-duty police officers, firefighters, and rescue personnel in Rhode Island who have been killed or severely injured in the line of duty.
The dedication of first responders reminds us that service comes in many forms and that the strength of Rhode Island lies in the people who care enough to step forward when it matters most.
To all first responders: thank you.
For your bravery, your compassion, and your sacrifice, today and every day, we salute you.
